God’s Blessing and New Year’s Resolutions

Tonight is the night that we celebrate the start of a New Year and all the promise it offers.

Karen reminded us today of the blessings from God that we all enjoy every day of every year. She talked about the need to make sure we add time every day to include God in our life and how we have a responsibility to many to take that time to help and nurture others in God’s love.

We all know Mathew 7:12. The Golden Rule:

"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you: do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets."

We try very hard to bear those words in our heart and live them in our daily lives. We as Christians work hard to ensure by word and deed to keep the trust of these words.

As New Year approaches we review and evaluate how we have done each year and vow to work hard to change what we would wish to improve. To this end we make New Year’s resolutions that will improve ourselves and help other. At this time of year we chose to remember by giving to charity to others as gifts and by supporting good works. We take time from our busy schedules to honour the gift of our Savior by giving of ourselves.

May I suggest that as we review our strengths and weaknesses and look to make those promises we also hold close another bible passage.

 John 3:18-17

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

God showed his love to us by giving us his only Son.

Jesus gave his life for us.

This New Years let us respect and honour that by pledging to give to Ourselves.

Let us show love to ourselves, let us take time to remember that God’s love was directed to each one of us personally as well as a group. You are owed the love of yourself and the blessing of God that you have been granted. You are precious and when you are choosing what to pledge as your New Years resolution, pledge time and respect for who you are and what you have done.

God and Jesus already have maybe you should too.

Happy New Years and God’s continued Blessings.
