Remembrance Sunday. And again as we worshipped, all elements of the service seemed preparatory to our observance of two minutes of silence.
Rev. Fred Demaray encouraged us to consider how we might be active as peacemakers, through individual acts, and through collective acts. The hymns we sang (Oh God our help in ages past and Oh Day of Peace that Dimly Shines) gave me assurance of a caring, present God who mourns with us always, but who also strengthens us.
Remembrance silence is not an empty space of time for me, but a time of gratitude and thankfulness.
Before leaving the sanctuary, many of us turned to our Memorial window with its Angel of Peace. May "our" angel and our God give us courage to be peacemakers.
